Our UK road trip has been a masterclass in contrasts, proving that the best travel stories often start with a “happy detour” and end with a completely unexpected adventure. We came for the scenery, but we certainly didn’t expect to accidentally find ourselves in Wales—or to tackle the infamous “Bog of Doom”!

A Quiet Start

The week began in complete contrast to what was to follow. We found a perfect, tranquil spot to park our motorhome right alongside a canal. It was the ultimate “Empty Nest” moment: peaceful, quiet, and graced by the company of some very local, very cute baby ducks. It was the kind of serene backdrop that makes full-time travel feel like a dream.

The “Happy Detour”

As we often do, we let the road guide us, which led to a bit of a surprise—we accidentally wandered into Wales!. While we were there, we couldn’t resist a visit to the world’s highest aqueduct, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It’s truly a marvel of engineering and a sight we are so glad we stumbled upon.

The ABR Festival Experience

The highlight of our week was, without question, the Adventure Bike Rider (ABR) Festival at Ragley Hall. Walking into an event with 20,000 other motorcyclists is an experience that’s hard to put into words.

The festival was a whirlwind of activity, including:

  • Demo Rides & Training: We put our own skills to the test in some off-road training classes, which was a humbling (and sometimes muddy!) experience.
  • The Bog of Doom: Yes, we saw it firsthand. Navigating the festival grounds was an adventure all on its own, especially when things got a bit… wet.
  • Community: One of the best parts was meeting fellow riders and legends like Sam Manicom. The camaraderie in that sea of 20,000 bikes was unmatched.

Between the heat waves and the thrill of the festival, it was a week we won’t soon forget. We even managed to get back across our own personal “fjord” (a stream crossing) on the way home!.

What’s Next?

We are slowly getting used to driving on the left side of the road here in the UK. We’re now looking ahead to our next big milestone: potentially taking the rig further north and eventually hitting the Isle of Man later this year.

Thanks for following along on these adventures. Don’t forget to check out our latest video on the channel to see the full “Serenity to Mayhem” journey unfold!
