So far, camping across Germany has had it’s up and downs. We are finding we don’t really enjoy the cities, but sometimes they have what we need. Case in point, we need to head to Ramstein, Germany, to take advantage of some the base amenities, or so we thought. The drive was not greatest drive, but enjoyable, and we passed through some small villages.
We found our space to park for the night, and while it was near a pond, called a seewag, it was rather urban. We stayed anyway, trying to get the power post to accept payment, but we were on our own. I did take Salsa for walk around the seewag.

We had an okay night’s stay, but were awaken by nearby construction, that was rocks being dumped into a hauler, not the quietest thing that ever happens. We headed off to the base. We got in pretty easily, and made our way to the mall. We had lunch at Macaroni Grill, and then went shopping. With a full cart, we were turned away since we didn’t have, and wouldn’t be able to get a Pink Card, which is used to pay the German Government. Well, strike one, and we headed off to the laundry. That was all don in American Dollars, so that was easy, as well.
We were done with the base, and a little upset about our time spent shopping for nothing, and headed to our next space. It was another freebie, but not in the best of places. It was mostly quiet at night. Our slumber was interrupted a couple of times with passing police cars.
The next morning we headed off toward a motorcycle accessory and clothing store to pick up an cover for the bike. It was a nice shop called Louis. They had the cover I needed, and we headed out again.
We were enjoying the climbing elevation change, and the colors and scenery. We had noticed that lots of that scenery were wineries, so apparently we were in Germany Wine Country. We were surprised when it popped up that we would be entering France. Hadn’t noticed that on the route. We stopped, shopped at an Action Store, and had something to eat. Just so we could say we dined in France.
Our departure of France and re-entry into Germany was marked by crossing the Rhine River. We were headed to the tip of the Black Forest, and a town called Gengenbach. We were looking forward to a night at a camp and winery. The camping part seemed like an after thought to this place. I had asked for a place that I could reach with my 20 meter power cord, but they didn’t put me in one. So, they moved us, and we would be in one space one night, and another the second night. That would work for us, as we planned to drive to the town and tour the historic area.
The night was pleasant, and we woke up with sun shining in through the skylight. It looked like this would be our best weather day since we had been here. After breakfast, and wrapping things up, we headed into town. We toured the historic part of town, and since it was Saturday Morning, the area was alive with market activity. After touring around, we stopped and had a fantastic pizza for lunch.

We parked in our new space, and while Kasey basked in the sun, I got some work done. I tried doing it in outside, but the sun was just too bright for my laptop’s screen. We had dinner and another good night’s sleep.
The next morning, we did another round of emptying the toilet cassette, and filling the water tank before we left. For some strange reason, the place had no garbage cans, so we would get rid of our trash when we found one.
