Making Our Way Into Germany

We were a bit disappointed that we didn’t see more of the Dutch Sahara, but we were excited to move on to our second country. A bit of a bummer here, as passing into Germany felt like going from North Carolina to South Carolina, barely a sign to let us know. We did find one sign that drew our attention. Apparently, the word for Exit or Off Ramp in German is Ausfarht. Yes we had a good juvenile time with that one. From some T-Shirts and other items we found later, we are not the only ones. All German Roads lead to Ausfarht.

We were also told that fuel prices were lower in Germany, and while the tank was still near full, we did make a stop to take a break, let Salsa go the bathroom, and have a little lunch.

Back on the road, we saw a site that left us in a bit of awe, so we weren’t able to get a camera ready in time. The familiar letters of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) on a large building, as it was also a Casino. I guess you could really roll the bones there?

Since we had camped, and paid, for the last two nights, we decided to park for a few nights, choosing a free spot at the edge of Cologne (Koln) Germany. It was a parking lot for a Tennis Club, but there were spaces down by the end for campers. It was also near a park, so we were able to get Salsa some exercise chasing a ball.

Kasey also took the chance to add another country, Germany, to our map. We also worked on our plan for the next day. We discovered there was no parking for a camper near the Rhine, so we looked into other methods to get there.

We woke up on day 2 in Germany, and scheduled an Uber to pick us up and take us down by the river, near the Lindt Chocolate Museum. The driver was friendly, and accepted Salsa panting while driving. We toured the museum and had lunch, Chocolate Fondue.

Next, we took a stroll down the Rhine to head to the next place we wanted to see. This was on Kasey’s List.

Stepping up to the Gothic Church was surreal. Such a majestic building, started 800 years ago. The stone work was incredible. We toured inside and outside, and the inside was just as eerie. A few hundred people were probably inside, but the huge space was quiet.

We ventured back to near where we started, we were meeting another Uber Driver to take us back to our home on wheels. This driver was not as friendly, nor was he as good as driver. Jack-rabbit starts, hard breaking, ect. We settled in for the night, agreeing that the big cities are just not really our thing. We enjoyed what we saw, but we like over-nighting in more rural areas.
