The Black Forest

We left the Wild Winery, not all that impressed. We both felt like the camping part is an after thought.

We continued south in Germany headed into and through The Black Forest. I had seen along the route, the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock, so I thought it would be a surprise for Kasey. Unfortunately, we came across another large Cuckoo Clock, and I was confused, and thought this was the one, but the GPS messed up. It had a very nice clock shop, too.

The large that was there had lots of animation, dancers, drinkers, a bell ringer, and a band.

Back on the road to the World’s Largest. While the clock didn’t have the animation when the hour chimed, it was quite the impressive clock, but also hard to get a photo of the face.

On through the Black Forest to our Parking Spot.
It was in a remote location near the large lake Obersee. Parking lot for hiking trails, busy on a Sunday Afternoon. We could see mountains in the distance with snow. A couple campers joined us.

Woke up late, had a quick breakfast and headed out to a Pet Food Store. Then another trip to a Rewe. We had some views of the lake, but we would have more later. Too bad the sky was grey and cloudy, not a good look.

Stopped at a bakery in one town, then made our way to our park for night spot. From the reviews, we knew it was near railroad tracks, as the parking spot was at an old train station. The trains go very fast here, and we had read that the sound is gone in a flash.

We made our way around some single lane roads, and arrived at the parking spot. Sure enough, two sets of tracks behind us, and it wasn’t long that a train went whizzing by. There was also some good traffic on the street in front of us. We always kind of wait in anticipation of someone coming up and knocking on our door, telling us we need to move. Hasn’t happened yet.

So, we caught up on emails and blog posts as the trains continued to pass by, sometimes shaking the camper. They slowed at night, but then we could hear the church bells. Not a great place to sleep, and if you do sleep soundly, you should get your ears checked.

We were able to rest, and woke to mix of trains, church bells, and rain drops pattering on the roof. We wanted to get moving, so a quick breakfast, and we made our way out of town. But first, we had a bicycle accident right in front of us. A woman tried to hop a short sidewalk curb, and took a tumble. It looked pretty bad, but she was able to stand walk. A woman, with her daughter and dog, helped her and her bike get around the corner. Kasey offered our First Aid Kit, but she didn’t appear to need it, if she understood what she said.

The rest of the trip saw us double our elevation from around 500 meters to nearly a kilometer (1000 meters). We stopped at one point, because the mountain views were just too good. We arrived at our next campsite, a bit industrial, but it will do for the night.
